The Battle of Treiden was fought during the Polish–Swedish War (1626–1629), between Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Swedish Empire in February 1, 1628. Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth forces under the command of Mikołaj Korff and Konstanty Zienowicz defeated the Swedish forces commanded by Gustav Horn.

1702 — Battle of Cremona

The Battle of Cremona was a battle of the War of the Spanish Succession that took place on 1 February 1702 between France and Austria. Five months after repulsing the French at the Battle of Chieri (Chiari) in Lombardy, Prince Eugene of Savoy retook the offensive, moving westward with the Austrian army of Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor to Cremona on the Po. On 1 February 1702, Eugene conducted a night attack that caught the French garrison, under Marshal François de Neufville, Duc de Velleroi, completely by surprise.

1781 — Battle of Cowan's Ford

The Battle of Cowan's Ford was a battle in the Southern Theater of Cornwallis's 1780–1782 Campaign that eventually led to the British Army's surrender at Yorktown during the American Revolutionary War. It was fought on 1 February 1781 at Cowan's ford on the Catawba River in northwestern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, between a force of about 5,000 British and fewer than a thousand Americans who were attempting to slow the British advance across the river. The American general William Lee Davidson was killed in this battle.

1783 — 1783 Delaware gubernatorial election

The 1783 Delaware gubernatorial election was held on February 1, 1783. The former delegate to the Congress of the Confederation from Delaware Nicholas Van Dyke was elected president of Delaware for a term of three years. The previous president John Dickinson resigned on November 4, 1782, following his election as president of Pennsylvania. The president of the Council John Cook acted as president pending the election of Dickinson's successor.

1814 — Battle of La Rothière

The Battle of La Rothière was fought on 1 February 1814 between the French Empire and allied army of Austria, Prussia, Russia, and German States previously allies with France. The French were led by Emperor Napoleon and the coalition army was under the command of Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher. Attacked by a large force in severe weather conditions (wet snowstorm), the French managed to hold until they could retreat under cover of darkness. Multinational coalition forces used white shoulder bands to distinguish friends from foes during the battle.

1855 — Paraguay expedition

The Paraguay Expedition was a United States Naval mission sent to Asunción, Paraguay, in 1858 to demand indemnity and apology from the Paraguayan Government for the 1 February 1855 firing on the U.S. Navy vessel USS Water Witch and for alleged insults against the United States and Paraguay Navigation Company. This was an example of U.S. gunboat diplomacy. Carlos Antonio López agreed to indemnify the families of the crew and the Supreme Court of the United States declared the innocence of the Paraguayan Government in the incidents.

1942 — Marshalls–Gilberts raids

The Marshalls–Gilberts raids were tactical airstrikes and naval artillery attacks by United States Navy aircraft carrier and other warship forces against Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) garrisons in the Marshall and Gilbert Islands on 1 February 1942. The Japanese garrisons were under the overall command of Vice Admiral Shigeyoshi Inoue, commander of the 4th Fleet. Japanese aircraft in the islands belonged to the IJN's 24th Air Flotilla under Rear Admiral Eiji Gotō.

1957 — Northeast Airlines Flight 823

Northeast Airlines Flight 823 was a scheduled flight in the United States, from New York City's LaGuardia Airport to Miami International Airport, Florida, which crashed shortly after takeoff on February 1, 1957. The aircraft operating the service was a Douglas DC-6 four-engined propeller airliner, registration N34954, which entered service in 1955. It crashed near Rikers Island, which sent corrections personnel and inmates to rescue and assist survivors.

1970 — Costa Rican general election, 1970

General elections were held in Costa Rica on February 1, 1970. José Figueres Ferrer of the National Liberation Party won the presidential election, whilst his party also won the parliamentary election. Voter turnout was 83.3%. On June 25, 1969 the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica reform the Constitution outlawing presidential reelection, but as any legal reform is retroactive, all previous presidents could be candidates one more time. Two former presidents José Figueres Ferrer and Mario Echandi Jiménez were the two main candidates in the election. Echandi was nominated by then ruling party National Unification, a right-wing conservative party made out of the merge of the Republicans (Calderonistas) and the National Union (Ulatistas).

Edwards's victory was the first time a Roman Catholic had been elected to the state's governorship since Francis T. Nicholls left office in 1892. Party primaries were held on November 6, 1971, and a run-off was held for the Democratic nomination on December 18, 1971.

1980 — 1980 Ispaster attack

The 1980 Ispaster attack was a gun and grenade attack by the Basque separatist organisation ETA which occurred on 1 February 1980 near the Basque town of Ispaster. The targets were a convoy of civil guards who were escorting workers and weapons from the nearby Esperanza y Cia Arms factory to Bilbao. A total of six civil guards were killed, while two ETA members were killed by hand grenades that they had thrown.

1996 — Hemsworth by-election, 1996

The Hemsworth by-election, 1996 was a parliamentary by-election held in England on 1 February 1996 for the House of Commons constituency of Hemsworth in West Yorkshire. The vacancy was caused by the death of Hemsworth's Member of Parliament (MP), Derek Enright of the Labour Party. Enright, a former Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Leeds, had held the seat since a by-election in 1991. The result was a Labour hold. The election saw the first contest by the Socialist Labour Party, ahead of the party's official formation. Based in nearby Barnsley, the organisation just saved its deposit, with 5.4% of the vote.

2004 — 2004 Erbil bombings

The 2004 Erbil bombings was a double suicide attack on the offices of Kurdish political parties in Erbil, Iraq, north of Baghdad on February 1, 2004. The attackers detonated explosives strapped to their bodies as hundreds gathered to celebrate Eid Al-Adha in Erbil. A former government minister, the deputy governor of Erbil Province and the city's police chief were among those killed at offices of northern Iraq's main political groups, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). The attacks occurred as party leaders were receiving hundreds of visitors to mark the start of Eid.
